Education & Training
Dr Robin Fackrell graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London in 2000 following six years of undergraduate training.
Following his house jobs, he spent a period of time at the John Radcliffe, Oxford in the Emergency Department before moving to Bath to undergo core medical training at the Royal United Hospital. Having developed a strong affinity for holistic and person centred care he then entered into Higher Specialist Training in Geriatric and General Medicine, in the Wessex and Severn deaneries.
Dr Fackrell attained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2004 and went on to be awarded Fellowship in 2010.
During his Higher Specialist Training, he completed a Masters in Healthcare Ethics and Law via the University of Manchester.
He was appointed as a Consultant in General and Geriatric Medicine at the Royal United Hospitals, Bath in 2010 and has fulfilled multiple leadership roles, including Director of the Division of Medicine. As well as his clinical role, he is also an Associate Medical Director for the Bath and Northeast Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board. Dr Fackrell has a wide portfolio in this role including leading on frailty, Hospital at Home and medicines optimisation.
Dr Fackrell is well known as a pragmatic and holistic physician who strives to enhance and maintain quality of life for his patients. He is a proponent of shared decision making, working with patients to enable them to make the very best decisions to enhance and optimise their health, maximising their potential to live with the highest quality of life.
Dr Fackrell is a specialist in Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders and prides himself on a ‘whole person’ approach which focuses both on the movement aspects of this disorder but also the non-motor features which tend to have a greater impact on quality of life.
His expert skills also allow him to adopt a whole person ethos to a wide variety of medical illnesses, from a forensic approach to diagnosis to the development of an individualised management plan, based on his wide experience and the latest evidence.
Memberships and Associations
Dr Fackrell is a longstanding faculty member of The Neurology Academy and
lectures nationally on wide ranging issues. He works closely with Parkinson’s UK and
had a leading role working with NICE in the writing of the Parkinson’s guideline for
clinicians.
He works closely with Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist colleagues and has delivered
several plenary sessions at their national conferences.
Dr Fackrell works with a team of neurophysiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and psychologists who can assist in delivering the highest quality, individualised care for his patients.
He has links with many colleagues who undertake research in the field of
Parkinson’s disease and this enables his patients to be readily put forward for
research participation should they wish to.
